About Me

Hello! I’m Mhairi, the owner and creator of Purple Impey.

My business started in 2017 after rekindling my love for sewing. My parents taught me to sew when I was young, and I used to spend hours making all sorts of things but as I grew up life got in the way and I stopped. Years later, I pinched my mum’s sewing machine to make a few repairs, I realised how much I’d missed sewing and the seedlings of Purple Impey were sown (or sewn!).

I adore all things country; I’m sure you will get to know just how much through my blog. It has been my love for animals and the countryside which has always influenced how I style my home and has inspired the fabrics that I use for my products. Being able to make products such as the doorstops, cushions and memo boards for others to enjoy gives me such a sense of joy. Our allotment (and my other half’s amazing cooking!) has influenced my kitchenware line, with matching kitchen sets, aprons, tea towels, aga covers and tea cosies.
I trade at artisan markets and my absolute favourites are the county shows. I really enjoy meeting all my customers and getting new ideas from chatting to everyone, I also really enjoy doing bespoke orders for people knowing that they will get exactly what they are looking for.
So, the inspiration behind the name? Impey was my first pony, my best friend and my absolute pride and joy. We were together for ten years before he had to go over Rainbow Bridge in 2011 and we had an amazing time together. He came to live with me because he was too naughty for the riding school I was working at, and I had fallen in love! Everything I bought for him was purple, hence my business name, Purple Impey. It amazes me how much he still inspires and motivates me, having the business in his name makes me feel as though he’s still with me.
